It's that time of year again, where lights twinkle, gifts are purchased, and we take a step back as founders to refine our marketing objectives. As a young company, nimbleness is key and reviewing our goals through an honest, data-driven lens allows us to course correct and push toward growth.
I’d gather my small but mighty marketing team and plaster the walls with paper – it's time to map out where we stand. Reviewing the year, what stuck out? A campaign with influencers drove awareness and social buzz, but did not convert to sales. Was that expected? Our search ads delivered web traffic initially, but poorly targeted keywords drained the budget. Valuable lessons...what do we keep, toss, or tailor?
Armed with these insights, we rework our objectives to be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound). We get granular with metrics and KPIs while still aligning to our 3-year business plan. With clear owners and timeframes assigned to each objective, accountability is built-in.
It's an invigorating process as we challenge assumptions while setting audacious but grounded goals. Our passion and vision for the company fills the room. Clear objectives set, it's time to execute with heart next year and deliver something meaningful while achieving growth. I end the lengthy meeting with high fives as we get back to chasing what matters most – serving our customers. That’s how you build an empire 💪
