I’ve been working a lot with Midjourney lately. Here are four tips that make all the difference, which I really wish I knew before diving in:
1. The symbol “--” is a command, rather than a prompt. So, “--ar 3:2 --v 4” means the aspect ratio needs to be exactly 2:3, and Midjourney must use version 4. These are set commands the AI understands. It’s kind of like a dog who knows how to interpret your speech generally, but knows exactly what you mean when you say pre-learned terms such as “sit.” For a link to all the possible commands (they’re called “parameters”), see the link in the first comment.
2. Learn to say “no”. Don’t only prompt what to do, but also what not to do. For example, “--no photo” will prevent realistic images from appearing in your results. It’s a very powerful command since it sets a clear direction and prevents a ton of unnecessary iterations.
3. It doesn’t understand HEX or RGB numbers. I learned that one the hard way 😅. You need to describe the colors you want, such as “smokey pink” or “hazel brown”. Some tools translate colors to words, but it’s also kinda cool to invoke your inner poet.
4. You need to stop. With endless possibilities and creations, it's easy to get carried away. It drove me a little nuts, and at some point, I had to just stop. Step away and work with what you have. Quench that thirst artificially.
So there you have it! There are techniques that are worth learning, and new languages worth speaking. Adapt to this new world as fast as you can. That’s how you build an empire 💪
